Dumfries, Virginia (August 2, 2005) -- On Tuesday, Dumfries Mayor Melvin Bray (D), Vice Mayor Clyde Washington (D) and Town Council members Stephanie Bradley (R), Cliff Brewer (I), Sue Cornell (R), Rafael Lopez (I) and Brenda Via (R) announced their individual endorsements of Delegate Jeff Frederick for his re-election to the General Assembly.
“I'm honored and grateful to have the bi-partisan support of Mayor Bray, Vice-Mayor Washington and every member of the Town Council. This is a group of people that, like me, are committed to making our community a better place to live and work. A group who believe we need to better prioritize taxpayer dollars in Richmond; who know that we can't solve today's challenges with yesterday's solutions; and who believe that true political courage is keeping promises one makes with the people, after the elections are over. I've worked hard to keep my promises, and have worked hard for this town. I look forward to our continued work together,” Frederick said.
Frederick was joined by every member of the Town Council at the Dumfries Community Center for the announcement.
Mayor Mel Bray commented “No one has worked harder for this town than Jeff Frederick, and no one has been there like Jeff has. He's done what he said he would do, and I'm proud to have him as our representative in Richmond -- and we need him there to continue his work on our behalf.”
Vice-Mayor Clyde Washington added “Because Jeff has done a good job for the Woodbridge and Dumfries areas, he has earned and deserves our support. He has been the most effective first-term Delegate, and this area needs his fresh ideas in Richmond to continue to move our community forward.”
“Since the day he was elected, Jeff has been here in the community always ready to help us – and he has helped. He’s the first one to come into this town and work for us. He’s kept his promise and we need him to continue to serve us. We should do whatever we can to ensure his re-election, and I’m personally ready to stand at the polls or whatever he needs me to do for him to win,” said Councilwoman Sue Cornell.
Delegate Frederick was the leading voice in the fight to get funding to expand the Route 234 Commuter lot in Dumfries, to provide state aid in the construction of the Marine Corps Heritage Center, has worked to close the Potomac Landfill, and has otherwise been a strong voice in Richmond for issues that are important to the community.
Frederick is a native Virginian who during his first 20 months as a Delegate has increased state funding to his district more than any other freshman in his class.
