During the 2007 General Assembly session, the conservation community was elated by Delegate Jeff Frederick’s votes on energy policy and natural resources funding. “Delegate Frederick recognizes that conservation indeed is a conservative value and demonstrated his commitment through his support of funding natural resources, opposition to bad energy policy, and transportation reform,” said Lisa Guthrie, Executive Director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters.
Delegate Frederick showed that he can see beyond the electric utilities’ rhetoric and look at what fossil fueldependent energy policy can do to our working families and our environment. That’s why he voted against SB 1416 – The Electric Utility “ReRegulation” bill.
Delegate Frederick also supported SB 771 – which allows for bonding for waste water treatment plants to improve their nutrient management and help cleanup one of Virginia’s natural treasures and economic engines: the Chesapeake Bay.
Last, Delegate Frederick’s commitment to creating a link between land use and transportation continued to guide his votes during the 2007 General Assembly session. He also supported transportation reform, voting for HB 2854 which bring stronger financial reporting guidelines and bring better accountability to VDOT.
In just a few more weeks, Virginia League of Conservation Voters 2007 Conservation Scorecard will be released—Delegate Frederick earned a 100% voting record this session and we are proud of his performance!
