Woodbridge, Virginia (May 8, 2007) - Few people know that when Delegate Jeff Frederick was a teenager, he was a United States Cycling Federation licensed racer competing against the likes of (then) little known cyclist Lance Armstrong. Although Frederick has virtually been off his bike since, he will be making a cycling comeback of sorts by entering a competitive race with the help of his wife and a senior from the Forest Park High School swim team.

Frederick's re-election campaign will enter a relay team in the second annual Lake Montclair Triathlon scheduled for Sunday, June 24th. The competition consists of a 1 mile lake swim, a 24 mile bike ride, and a 6.2 mile run. Frederick will compete in the bike ride; his wife Amy will do the run; and Montclair resident Allison Marocco will start the team off with the swim.

Marocco, who graduates from high school June 12 and will attend the College of William & Mary this fall, is the daughter of last year's Lake Montclair Triathlon winner Doug Marocco.

"I'm excited about this. It's the first time in a while that I've raced, but win or lose, it will be a great time for some great causes. The fact that this event is being held in the 52nd district makes it all the better, and it is a good opportunity to show folks from outside our area what a great place eastern Prince William is to live and raise a family," Frederick said.

Amy Frederick, an avid runner, said that physical fitness is important to the Frederick family. "Jeff and I know how important staying in shape is to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, so hopefully our family's involvement in this triathlon -- as well as the Marocco family's involvement -- might encourage other families to do fitness related activities together", she said.

Doug Marocco will again be competing this year, defending his first-place title.

The event takes place within the Montclair community, which is part of Frederick's eastern Prince William legislative district. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Prince William County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Azalea Charities, and Prince William Public Library Foundation.
