League of Conservation Voters make endorsement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Richmond, Virginia (September 19, 2007) – For the first time ever, the political arm of Virginia's conservation community has endorsed a House candidate in the 52nd District. Delegate Jeff Frederick has received the endorsement of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters (VALCV) for his re-election.

“We believe that voters in the 52nd district are well represented given Delegate Frederick’s dedication to conservation issues. He has demonstrated an understanding of several critical environmental issues including land use and transportation, and clean energy policy. We appreciate his commitment to protecting Virginia’s environment and preserving its history, and we look forward to working closely with him when he’s re-elected this year”, said Lisa Guthrie, Executive Director of the VALCV.

This endorsement follows an announcement earlier this year by the VALCV that Frederick earned a 100% score on the League’s 2007 Conservation Scorecard for his voting record on issues of concern to the conservation community. The organization singled out Frederick’s leadership in pushing for better management and control of residential growth and development.

“Our environmental resources are an important part of our special quality of life, as well as our eastern Prince William economy, and I am proud to be among those working to preserve and protect those resources. We need to leave this earth better than the way we found it, and I’m committed to ensuring we do that,” said Frederick. “I’m proud to have the strong support of the conservation community for my re-election.”

In 2006, Frederick’s law to require traffic impact statements for any new residential development proved to be the most significant land-use legislation passed and enacted that year. That law has successfully halted the construction of 37,000 new homes in Northern Virginia. This year, he sponsored legislation that provides impact fee authority to local government to better manage and control growth/development.

VALCV is the only organization dedicated solely to legislative advocacy and direct political action on behalf of the conservation issues defined by local, regional, and state organizations.
